A Lebanon County post office may receive a new name following the tragic death of a police officer.

Legislation introduced by Congressman Dan Meuser (PA-09) would rename the post office located at 101 South 8th Street as the "Lieutenant William D. Lebo Post Office Building."

The bill, H.R. 3865, passed unanimously in the U.S. House of Representatives on Monday, Jan. 29. The legislation was co-sponsored by Pennsylvania's entire House delegation.

Lt. William D. Lebo with the Lebanon City Police Department was tragically killed in the line of duty on March 31, 2022, while responding to a domestic-related burglary incident. He was a 40-year veteran of the Lebanon Police Department and was just 30 days from retirement at the time of his passing.

"For forty years, Lt. Lebo dedicated his life to protecting and serving the Lebanon community," said Congressman Meuser. "He was a loving father, husband and son, who gave his life in service to others. He will be remembered as the model of what law enforcement officers should be, and our community continues to mourn his passing. It is my hope that renaming the post office in the city he loved will serve as a lasting recognition of his remarkable life and legacy, during which he always put service above self."

The legislation now moves to the United States Senate for consideration before being signed into law by the President.
