DENVER, Pa. — A Lancaster County man has been charged with recklessly endangering another person after police say he nearly shot his neighbor while target shooting.

Steven Lynn Enck, 59, of Denver, was charged on Oct. 4 after an investigation by Ephrata Police, according to a criminal complaint affidavit. The alleged incident occurred on Sept. 28 along Swamp Bridge Road, police said.

The victim contacted authorities at about 10:01 a.m. on the date of the alleged incident, claiming that he'd nearly been hit by gunfire while walking along his property. The victim accused Enck of discharging the firearm in his direction, according to police.

The officer made contact with Enck, who admitted that he had been target shooting with a 12-gauge shotgun earlier in the day. Enck allegedly told police he fires at a target on his property at least once a day, according to the complaint.

Enck allegedly showed the target he shoots at -- a white rock near the rear of his property -- and the officer noted that any shots fired in the direction of the target had nothing to impede it from traveling to the victim's property. The officer also stood at the spot where Enck was firing from and noted he had a clear line of sight to where the neighbor was standing when the projectiles nearly struck him, according to the complaint.

Enck allegedly told the officer he did not see the neighbor when he fired a shot at the target, but admitted that he could have been firing onto the neighbor's property.
