Hidden camera found in residence hall bathroom at Franklin & Marshall College

The recordings revealed the suspect, John Riley, placing the cameras in various locations. He has since turned himself in to Lancaster City police.

LANCASTER, Pa. — Police are investigating after a hidden camera was discovered in a residence hall bathroom at Franklin & Marshall College, a spokesperson with the school said Thursday.

F&M sent out a student alert Thursday afternoon. The camera was hidden in the bathroom Wednesday night, the school said. 

The devices recorded and saved videos of victims in various states of undress, including audio recordings of various intercepted conversations, according to the Lancaster City Bureau of Police.

The recordings also revealed the suspect, John Riley, placing the cameras in various locations. Franklin and Marshall security identified Riley, who subsequently turned himself in. 

Riley is being charged with four counts of interception of wire recorded communications, criminal use of a communication facility and invasion of privacy and two counts of possession of instruments of crime. 

Lancaster Police are investigating, and the school is "actively working to physically and digitally ensure that no other devices exist," F&M's statement said.

At this time, at least four different victims have been identified. Lancaster City Police are still determining the identifies of all those recorded. Anyone with information can contact the Bureau by calling 717-735-3300 or submit an anonymous tip through CRIMEWATCH.

Franklin and Marshall College has provided links to resources students can access, including on-campus counseling and mental health services.

F&M's statement appears in full below:

"The campus was alerted about the discovery of a camera in a bathroom in one of the residential facilities. The College is actively working to physically and digitally ensure that no other devices exist. The individual responsible is no longer on campus and Lancaster City Bureau of Police will continue to investigate. The College is working with the individuals directly impacted to provide updates and resources."
