Inmate at Camp Hill prison found guilty of stabbing guard with pencil in 2021

CAMP HILL, Pa. — An inmate at SCI-Camp Hill was convicted this week of stabbing a corrections officer at the prison with a pencil in 2021, the Cumberland County District Attorney's Office announced this week..

Dwayne Hill was found guilty of Aggravated Assault (Attempting to Cause Serious Bodily Injury) and Aggravated Assault (Causing or Attempting to Cause Bodily Injury) on Tuesday after a one-day trial before a Cumberland County jury, prosecutors said.

The incident occurred on June 28, 2021, according to prosecutors. The victim suffered a minor injury.

Hill is facing a 25-year mandatory minimum prison sentence, because it is his third conviction for a crime of violence, according to prosecutors. He has prior convictions for homicide and robbery.

The case was prosecuted by First Assistant District Attorney Courtney Hair LaRue and by Trooper Shawn Barry of the Pennsylvania State Police in Carlisle. 

Sentencing is scheduled for January 23, 2024 in front of the Honorable Jessica E. Brewbaker.
