Harrisburg Police Threat

Officials are trying to determine who mailed a threatening letter to Harrisburg Police last month — And they’re not the only police department to receive this threat.

In a letter addressed to Harrisburg Police, Chief Thomas Carter says he received this note on December 26, in a plain white envelope.

Inside was a letter that read, “Poor Scumbag Cops, Afraid To Be Alone, Kill All Cops.”

"I did not take this as a threat to Harrisburg officers, I took it as a threat to all police officers," said Chief Thomas Carter with the Harrisburg Police Department.

Chief Carter immediately notified all police agencies in Dauphin County and ordered officers to ride in pairs.

"It bothered me. It's one thing to post something on Facebook and social media and what have you but now when you start to mail stuff through the mail starting to threatening police officers, that's a concern," he added.

But several days later, Chief Carter received a call from Yonkers Police in New York. They received a letter with a similar threat.

"And to send something like this you know, it's just disheartening and I can imagine how it makes spouses feel you know," Chief Carter said.

Chief Carter has since lifted the order for officers to ride in pairs. While no one has acted on this threat, police say this threat will not intimidate them.

"We're just going to continue with our business and were not going to let anybody who thinks like this stop us from serving the public," he added.

The US Postal Service along with a team of investigators are examining the letter for fingerprints and any DNA evidence.
