YORK, Pa. — Welcome to the next month of the FOX43 Book Club!

We are partnering with local libraries to create a Book Club featuring authors from Pennsylvania, highlighting the stories of our surrounding communities.

May's pick is "In the Day of Trouble" by Taj Magruder.

"In the Day of Trouble" is a historical fiction account of the 1934 murder of Susan Mummey, known as the "Witch of Ringtown Valley." Magruder describes the crime as "the most famous murder you've never heard of." He says he combined historical accounts from newspaper coverage, testimony and doctors at Mummey's autopsy with his own inspiration to humanize the story and make it more of a narrative than a simple statement of facts.

Magruder has lived in the Philadelphia area for most of his life and currently works as a public servant in Harrisburg. He graduated from Penn State University with a degree in political science and has been involved in state and local government for years.

Those who are interested in reading along with the Book Club can find the book at many online retailers or at libraries in the surrounding area. Readers can ask their preferred library to request the book from Access PA, a statewide library resource-sharing network.
