Wilsbach Distributors shares plans for eco-friendly grant money

Wilsbach Distributors Inc. unveiled its newest plans towards achieving carbon neutrality in an effort to help the environment.

HARRISBURG, Pa. — A central Pennsylvania drink distribution company received a big boost to become more eco-friendly.

Wilsbach Distributors Inc. unveiled its newest plans towards achieving carbon neutrality at a sustainability celebration and open house. Carbon neutrality is when companies eliminate their carbon footprint in an effort to help the environment.

The company says while it aims to be successful, the move is part of its push to improve air quality in central Pennsylvania.

"We measure business performance of course with profit, but we also care about our people and the planet," Frank Sourbeer, president of Wilsbach Distributors, said. "And so we think we can move our business forward by also helping the community and also helping to keep the planet clean."

It's all thanks to a more than $2 million grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.

The company says the new funds will be used to acquire seven electric freight trucks. The new trucks will help reduce air pollution by permanently replacing five existing diesel trucks. Wilsbach would like to convert its entire diesel fleet to electric vehicles once the cars can travel further distances, the company said.

Wilsbach Distributors has been privately funding its sustainability initiatives since 2019, when it designed its new facility on Oberlin Road in Harrisburg.
