Creeks and streams across central Pa. experience minor flooding

Heavy rain causes local streams to overflow and flood nearby streets.

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. — Last night’s heavy rains are running off into local creeks and streams, causing flooding.

In Carlisle, Cumberland County, parts of Clemson Road were closed after it was flooded from the nearby Conodoguinet Creek.

“We will commonly see this closed down when there is heavy rain or snow melt," said Susan Smith, who stopped by Clemson Road to take pictures of the flooded street.

Jennifer Leedy, who lives on Clemson Road with her family, said the storms caused some water to get into her basement.

“When it gets flooded like this, we usually get a half inch to an inch in our basement," said Leedy. "It’s not terrible and thankfully our basement is sloped.”

Even with some water in her basement, Leedy believes the flooding wasn't nearly as bad as it could have been.

“This is actually mild, usually the water comes halfway up our driveway and then our backyard gets pretty flooded," she said.

In Carroll Township, Perry County, several roads were underwater as parts of Sherman’s Creek overflowed. Dave Heath, who lives on Dark Hallow Road, said the floodwaters made it halfway up his driveway and prevented him from leaving his house.

"We just took the day off," he told FOX43.

Heath said he spent the day cleaning water and mud from his garage, but added that the flood waters didn’t cause any other damage to his house.

“It didn’t come into the house, so we’re in good shape," said Heath.

Perry County’s Emergency Management Agency told FOX43 they didn’t have any evacuations or water rescues.
