HARRISBURG, Pa., (WPMT)- Harrisburg City firefighters responded to a fire that broke out just after 9 am in the 2400 block of North 5th Street.  The fire crews arrived on the scene to find fire and smoke erupting from a vacant and abandoned property and was quickly spreading to adjacent buildings.  The fire went to two alarms with mutual aid units from surrounding municipalities responding.

Firefighters battled high heat and heavy smoke making visibility near zero. The fire was brought under control in about an hour. Two firefighters suffered minor injuries and were treated on the scene.

The fire, which remains under investigation, began on the first floor of 2417 North 5th Street. Although vacant it is believed the property was being occupied by several people. The fire also damaged property at 2415 and 2419 North 5th Street. Damages are estimated at about $115,000.
