State police are invesitigating a crash in Cumberland County that left one person dead and two others injured. The crash happened around 11:30 p.m. Saturday on Lebo Road in Penn Township. Investigators say the driver of a Dodge Ram was heading north at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the vehicle, went off the road and hit a tree.
Authorities identified the Dodge Ram driver as Corey Chestnut, 38, of Carlisle. He suffered moderate injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
The Cumberland County Coroner’s office said 34-year-old Jeanette Griffith, of Carlisle, who was a rear passenger in the vehicle, died at the scene. An autopsy is scheduled to be performed on Tuesday.
Chestnut’s front passenger, 34-year-old Rebecca Shearer, of Carlisle, was flown to the hospital. No word yet on her condition.
State police believe alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.
