Woman receives ATHENA award for her dedication to community service

Every year, the York County Economic Alliance and the Women's Business Center Organization team up to recognize one woman who exemplifies community service.

YORK COUNTY, Pa. — Excellence, community service and leadership: those are the core values of the ATHENA Leadership Awards.

Every year, the York County Economic Alliance and the Women's Business Center Organization team up to recognize one woman who exemplifies those traits.

This year, the honor goes to Jackie Summers of Penn-Mar Human Services.

"Truly, truly humbled and just so deeply honored to be counted among this ATHENA sisterhood of outstanding women leaders," Summers said. "At the core, I feel like servant leadership is such a great part of who they are and I feel so, so grateful that I'm a part of that and recognized among them."

Summers has spent decades volunteering and working in the nonprofit sector in York County.

She currently serves as the senior director of development for Penn-Mar, helping to support adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
