Penn-Mar's annual gala raises money to support people with disabilities

The annual gala has been the nonprofit's most beneficial fundraising event since it began in 1992.

YORK, Pa. — Penn-Mar Human Services is preparing to host its annual gala.

Penn-Mar got its start 43 years ago when a group of parents concerned about their children's future came together to plan social events, enrichment activities and support to kids with disabilities.

The gala has been the nonprofit's most beneficial fundraising event since it began in 1992. The money raised supports Penn-Mar's services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

"It brings people together who are just enjoying the night, really want to get together, dress up, have fun," Jackie Summers, senior director of development for the company, said.

More than 500 guests attend the gala each year, Penn-Mar said. Attendees will have the chance to enjoy a raw oyster bar, casino gaming tables, dancing, a live auction and live music.

Some of the live auction prizes include:

  • 23-Year-Old Pappy Van Winkle Family Reserve Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey
  • Myrtle Beach, S.C. vacation for 16 people at Crystal Sands on Ocean Boulevard in Surf Side Beach
  • Two tickets to see Bruce Springsteen and E Street Band 2024 Tour at Oriole Park, Camden Yards
  • Lake Front Home on Tupper Lake, N.Y. in the Adirondack Mountains, 9,000 square foot home, 7 bedrooms, 8 full baths
  • Diamond Confetti necklace and earrings

The event will be held at 6 p.m. on March 2 at the Marriott Owings Mills Metro Centre in Owings Mills, Maryland, a new location this year. Tickets can be purchased here.

FOX43 Morning News anchor Sean Streicher will emcee the event.
