PENNSYLVANIA, USA — There's another staffing shortage happening in the area. This time it's the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association.

The governing body of Pennsylvania high school sports says it's in need of referees.

The organization says there has been a 17 percent dip in the number of PIAA officials across all sports since 2018.

Mike Cerra has officiated high school baseball, basketball and football for more than 20 years.

He says schedules are being changed on the fly to make up for the shortage.

“Last week we had a 4:00 p.m. start up at Western Wayne and that crew came down and worked at Carbondale for a 7:30 p.m. start.”

If you're interested in becoming a referee you can register with the PIAA on its website.
