Mechanicsburg 7th grader Evyr Nailor shines as one of Major League Baseball's trailblazers

Nailor is one of 96 girls invited to take part in the MLB's Trailblazer Series where she will compete against the best baseball players in the world.

HARRISBURG, Pa. — There is a long line of trailblazers in sports, which now includes Mechanicsburg middle schooler Evyr Nailor.

She picked up a baseball bat at a young age and instantly fell in love. Since then, an upward trajectory has landed her on Major League Baseball's radar as part of their trailblazer series.

"I started playing baseball [and] got the hang of it pretty [quickly]," said Nailor. "Then I started getting seen, and now I'm at this point where I'm getting interviewed and seen by the MLB."

This will be the second year that Nailor is a part of the series; she is one of the 96 players competing in Florida. Former MLB draft pick, and her coach, Kellen Kulbacki has seen her grow by the day.

"She's always in here working her hardest to succeed and it's great to see her push the boundaries of baseball," said Kulbacki. "Seeing her taking it to the levels she has and continuing to pursue her interest in baseball [is great]."

Nailor will be in an elite Vero Beach company for this year's series. With USA Baseball's Women's National Team members coaching the players, Nailor feels her goal of representing her hometown well is simple.

"Baseball for girls is not that popular, especially in a city like Mechanicsburg," explained Nailor. "So it's good for other girls to have the experience [of seeing] someone improve and go as far as I'm going right now in the sport."

The event is scheduled for April 13-16 and will feature girls aged 11-13.
