U.S. Women's Open coming to Lancaster County in a matter of weeks

The U.S. Women's Open golf tournament is coming to Lancaster County in five weeks.

LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. — Imagine hosting a party for an entire week with over 135,000 guests expected to attend.

In five weeks, the U.S. Women's Open golf tournament will be played at Lancaster Country Club (LCC) and the members and local community are ready to host.

"The USGA has taken a lot of the work for the build-out of the tournament and the organization of the tournament in-house and they have an outstanding team," said tournament Vice-Chairman Rory Connaughton. "They’ve been very methodical, very systematic in what they are doing and they really have it down to a science so yeah, no panic yet, no panic yet.”

This is the second time the event has been played at LCC.  They set the attendance record nine years ago with over 135,000 fans enjoying the golf and festivities that surround the most important women's golf tournament in the world.

“It’s been pretty fun to watch all of the infrastructure go up," smiled Connaughton. "We have a lot more parking than we did in 2015 so the club can handle the trucks in and out a little better. Just seeing all the build out, and there’s more build out around the course this time around than there was in 2015 has everybody really excited, it really is beginning to feel like a major championship venue.”

The U.S. Women's Open starts with practice rounds on Tuesday, May 28th and Wednesday, May 29th.  The four competition rounds will take place Thursday, May 30th through Sunday, June 2nd.
