Lebanon County silo collapse leaves 1 dead

According to the Annville Cleona Fire Department, crews were on scene for seven hours.

LEBANON COUNTY, Pa. — Update, April 28: The Annvile Cleona Fire Department (ACFD) has confirmed that one man passed away on Saturday after a silo collapsed in on him while he was inside.

According to the fire department, the initial 911 caller reported that a silo collapsed while a man was inside, working to level to silage.

Officials with the fire department reported that further emergency and heavy equipment support was "urgently requested" as the scene unfolded.

The rescue mission was then transitioned into a recovery effort when a body was discovered within the silo by a K-9 unit at 1:10 p.m., according to the ACFD.

Crews were then on the scene for seven hours to ensure the victim's safe recovery.

"In light of the emotional toll this incident has taken on both emergency responders and the loved ones of the victim, ACFD command staff expends gratitude to all who provided assistance," ACFD stated in a Facebook post. "The collaborative response drew upon the expertise of some of the region's finest rescuers, spanning Lebanon, Lancaster, Dauphin and York Counties. The ACFD offers our sincere condolences to the family and friends affected. Our thoughts are with them during this difficult time."

Previous: An active investigation is underway following a silo that collapsed in Lebanon County on Saturday morning. 

It happened just before 11:30 a.m. along the 900 block of Mount Pleasant Road in South Annville Township, according to emergency dispatchers. One person was reportedly trapped. 

Numerous fire crews and a Hazmat team are on the scene. 

It is unknown if anyone was injured. 

No other information has been released from investigators at this point.

Tower 1 w/3, Rescue-Engine 1-1 w/4 and Utility 1 w/3 are currently assisting Company 58 with a Silo Collapse. One person is reported trapped. Lancaster and Lebanon County’s Technical rescue teams are also responding.
