Dress giveaway helping students look their best at prom

Damsel in a Dress helped give away 200 dresses on Sunday.

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — An organization in Wilkes-Barre is helping local high school students look like a million bucks at prom without breaking the bank.

'Damsel in a Dress' hosted its free dress giveaway Sunday at King's College.

The event came together after 'Cinderella's Closet,' a non-profit that provided low-cost dresses to girls, said farewell last year.

Organizers are glad they were able to help the community.

"We've had a few people say that, you know, they wouldn't be getting to the prom without, you know, something like this going on. It means a lot, especially, I think, a lot, to the parents, you know, so they've had a blast. Everybody's had a really good time, it seems," said Jill Elston, Damsel in a Dress.

Organizers say about 200 dresses were handed out at the event in Luzerne County.
