TSA recorded more than 2.8 million travelers for Memorial Weekend

May 24 was a record-setting day, and it is the highest reported number in 22 years, said a TSA spokesperson.

ARLINGTON, Va. — Memorial weekend is here and so are travelers arriving to various places nationwide. However, Memorial weekend 2024 will indeed be memorable as the Transportation Security Administration reported that 2,951,163 passengers were screened on May 24, 2024.  This unprecedented number is the highest in 22 years, said  Lisa Farbstein, TSA North East Spokesperson on her X account:

The news came as millions prepared to visit their families and friends all across the United States. In this regard, the American Automobile Association said in a statement in mid May that they "expected over 3.51 million travelers this holiday weekend." The mentioned number being an increase of 4.8% over 2023, and a 9% augmentation compared to 2019. The AAA also predicted the 2024 holiday weekend will be the "most crowded at airports since 2005."

It is worth mentioning, that this trend represented a comparable revenue for airlines with similar air ticket prices to last year, with just 1% to 2% increased prices, stated the AAA.

Numbers are also climbing with those who choose other sorts of transportation. The AAA also reports that over two million people are expected to travel by "buses, cruises, and trains." The mentioned entity declared they project 1.9 million people will opt for these other types of transportation.

While you are still traveling, please follow the safety updates local and national authorities post on their social accounts. And if traveling by air, plan your schedule with flexibility as this will be a busy weekend.
