Spring Garden Township appoints new acting chief of police

Adam Zimmerman, who has served with the department since 1994, was appointed to the post last week. He replaces retired Chief George Swartz.

Adam Zimmerman is the new acting Chief of Police of the Spring Garden Township Police Department.

YORK, Pa. — The Spring Garden Township Police Department has a new acting chief.

Sgt. Adam Zimmerman, who has served with the department since 1994, was appointed Acting Chief of Police by the Spring Garden Township Board of Commissioners on April 10. 

He replaces former Chief George Swartz, who retired this year after 23 years with the police department and 44 years in law enforcement.

During his tenure with the Spring Garden Township Police Department, Zimmerman has served as a Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, Patrol Supervisor, Training Sergeant, Accreditation Manager, and most recently, as the Administrative Sergeant.  

He is a current member of the York County Crisis Intervention Team and a former member of the York County Drug Task Force.

Zimmerman is married with three children.
