Free rock concert announced for Wilkes-Barre Public Square

Mayor George Brown announced the classic rock show planned for August on Thursday afternoon.

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — Starship, featuring Mickey Thomas, will rock Public Square in Wilkes-Barre this summer.

Mayor George Brown announced the free classic rock show on Thursday afternoon.

The concert on August 16 will start with an opening act at 6 p.m., followed by Starship blasting off at 7:30 p.m.

This rock show is the latest on Public Square. Classic rockers Guess Who performed last summer.

Luzerne County has a number of musical and cultural events set for this summer.

The Cavalcade of Jazz is scheduled for this weekend.

The Wilkes-Barre Fine Arts Fiesta will fill Public Square starting Thursday, May 16. The Spin Doctors performed at that event last year.

The Rockin' the River concert series kicks off in July near the Millennium Circle on the River Common in Wilkes-Barre.

Hazleton announced a summer concert series, Rockin' the Mountain, featuring national tribute acts.

Sponsors include Diamond City Partnership, the Luzerne Foundation, and Visit Luzerne County.
