Making your own slime for Halloween is simple, and it teaches children some science in action! All you need is 4 ounces of clear glue (preferred) or white glue, Borax (a household cleaner found in the laundry aisle), water, two bowls, and food coloring. First, place one cup of water in a bowl and dissolve one teaspoon of borax into it. Set it aside for now. Empty the glue into a second bowl. Add a half of a cup of water to the glue. Throw in some food coloring drops of your choice, and give the mixture a stir to distribute evenly. Then take the borax/water mixture and pour it into the glue mixture. The polyvinyl acetone, a liquid polymer, in the glue reacts with the borax. It causes the polyvinyl acetone molecules to tighten up, creating a firmer, solid polymer. Be sure to knead and shape it into a ball for up to 15 minutes, or until most of the liquid has been incorporated. You now have a squishy, stretchable "slime" to play around with on Halloween!
