Two men die in vehicle crash while fleeing from State Police in Franklin County

The suspects fled an attempted traffic stop on Oellig Road in Antrim Township and crashed their vehicle in a nearby field, State Police said.

MERCERSBURG, Pa. — Two men are dead after crashing their vehicle while fleeing from pursuing police officers in Franklin County overnight.

According to State Police, the suspects fled from an attempted traffic stop on Oellig Road in Antrim Township. While police gave chase, the suspects' vehicle traveled off the roadway and through several adjacent farms and fields. 

At one point while traveling through a field, the suspects' vehicle drove over a steep embankment and came to rest in a body of water.

EMS and fire/rescue teams dispatched to assist at the scene found both suspects dead inside the vehicle, according to police.

The incident began around 12:52 a.m., when troopers were dispatched to the 9000 block of Lindale Avenue in Antrim Township for a report of two male suspects unlawfully entering vehicles. The caller who reported the incident provided a description of the vehicle and its license plate number to authorities.

The investigation is being conducted by the Troop H Major Case Team, according to State Police. Additional details will be released at a later date.

The suspects' identities will be released following notification of their families, police said.
