CAMP HILL, Pa. — An inmate from Lancaster County Prison, who was receiving additional medical care at SCI Camp Hill, died of natural causes at Penn State Holy Spirit Hospital, authorities said Monday.

Donald Hess, 56, was incarcerated at Lancaster County Prison on June 18, 2023, on charges of resisting arrest, terroristic threats, and multiple parole violations, Lancaster County's communications office said in a press release. He was sentenced to serve 23 months in prison in December of last year.

On January 17, officials said Hess was admitted to Lancaster General Hospital for an illness. On February 6, staff at Lancaster County Prison submitted a request to the state Department of Corrections for Hess to be housed at SCI Camp Hill to receive the additional medical care he required. Hess' condition worsened, and he succumbed on Feb. 24 at Holy Spirit Hospital. His family was present at the time of his death, which was reported by the Cumberland County Coroner's Office.

Lancaster County Judicial and Law Enforcement agencies were notified.
