Art lovers got together with York Mayor Kim Bracey on Thursday at City Hall to hear details about the upcoming Yorkfest Fine Arts Festival.
This year’s free downtown festival will feature a piece of artwork from York artist Ophelia Chambliss. Chambliss’ paintings will be used as the event image in print advertisements, postcards, billboards and festival merchandise.
The festival will kick-off on Friday August 22 with the Yorkfest Juried Art Exhibition which includes a public opening reception and awards ceremony from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday August 23 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday August 22, the festival will also include nearly 100 artists from across the nation, the Historic Codorus Creek Boat Parade, and plenty of family-friendly activities.
Saturday’s events also include a Community Jazz Concert from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Amongst all the activities and entertainment, Yorkfest is expected to bring the community together.
“Art also has the uncanny ability to unify diverse people. Our community, our neighborhoods, our county, populations of divergent backgrounds can unify in the appreciation of a simple art form. It is the red thread among the fabric that knits our community together, ” Mayor Bracey said.
Yorkfest is also calling on the younger artists in the community to send in work for its Youth Art & Literary competitions.
