A Lancaster County woman was driving drunk before a head on crash that killed one person and injured two others. The fatal crash happened at about 11:17 pm on December 28, 2013. Shannon Rae Thurman, 30, of Wrightsville was arraigned today on multiple charges including Homicide by Vehicle while DUI.
Susquehanna Regional Police say Thurman was southbound on Route 441(River Road) in East Donegal Township when her vehicle crossed the center line and hit a northbound vehicle driven by Wagdy Beh Abdel Shaheed, 56, of Marietta. Shaheed was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in his vehicle suffered serious injuries.
Thurman was pinned in her vehicle and had to be extricated. She suffered critical injuries. A passenger in her vehicle suffered serious injury. Police say Thurman had a blood alcohol content of .156%.
Other charges against Thurman include Aggravated Assault by Vehicle while DUI, Aggravated Assault by Vehicle and DUI. If convicted she faces a 3 to 29 year prison sentence. Following arraignment she was released on $100,000 unsecured bail.
She was also ordered to surrender her driver’s license as part of the bail.
