GRANTS, Nm. —  A murder suspect is blaming a TV show for his actions.

Damon Perry, 23, told police he beat his friend to death after binge-watching episodes of “The Walking Dead.”

“In my 13 years of doing this, that was the most brutal scene that I have ever seen.”Moses Marquez of the Grants Police Department told KOAT.

Police say Perry told them he punched and kicked Christopher Paquin until he was unconscious.

He claims he thought his friend was turning into a zombie.

Officers say he likely used an electric guitar and a microwave to beat Paquin, and stabbed him with a knife.

Police first learned about the crime when someone called 911 to report a man chasing a woman around the apartment complex with a knife.

Perry was tackled by two maintenance men and held until police arrived.

Perry admitted to officer he and Paquin were heavily drinking before the attack.

Police say Perry has a history of alcohol-related run-ins with the law.

Perry has been charged with an open count of murder and is being held at the Cibola County Detention Center.
