PENNSYLVANIA – Forty-two municipal police departments throughout south central Pennsylvania, along with state police, are conducting increased aggressive driving enforcement. This latest wave of enforcement began October 24 and will run through November 20.
As part of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s Aggressive Driving Enforcement and Education Project, the initiative will aim to reduce the number of aggressive-driving related crashes, injuries and deaths on roadways throughout the state. Any aggressive driver stopped by police will receive a ticket.
Statewide, municipal police agencies that participated in last year’s campaign wrote 58,032 aggressive-driving related citations, including 35,126 for speeding alone. Failure to obey traffic control signals or signs was the second most-common offense, resulting in 4,879 citations. Additionally, the enforcement brought about 376 felony arrests, 203 DUI related arrests and 120 fugitive arrests.
Locally in Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry, and York counties, municipal police agencies that participated in last year’s campaign wrote 7,512 aggressive driving related citations, including 5,294 for speeding.
