Southbound I-81 Closed at Exit 14 in Franklin County Due to Overturned Tractor Trailer

Southbound I-81 is closed to traffic at Exit 14 (Route 316/Wayne Avenue) due to a tractor trailer that overturned shortly after 1 a.m. this morning. The truck was carrying some type of corrosive material not yet identified that is leaking. This is a hazardous material (“hazmat”) incident which will need to be cleared by a hazmat team before the highway can be reopened. In the meantime, southbound traffic is being directed off the highway at Exit 14  and detoured south on Route 11 and returned to southbound I-81 by way of Swamp Fox Road at Exit 10 (Route 914/Marion). Southbound I-81 is expected to remain closed into the early morning rush hours.
