HARRISBURG (WPMT) -- Pedro Rivera, former superintendent of the Lancaster School District and Governor Tom Wolf's nominee for the state's Secretary of Education, was approved unanimously Tuesday by the Senate Education Committee.
Rivera and the panel focused much of Tuesday's hearing on the education department's need to be more transparent and accountable than his predecessor, Ron Tomalis.
Rivera was honored by the White House in 2014 for his role in urban education while at Lancaster. His nomination next goes to the Senate Rules Committee before moving to the Senate floor.
