NEXT STORM SYSTEM

Mild but unsettled Wednesday

It’s been another mild afternoon, with a mixture of clouds and sunshine across the region. The warmth is expected to linger a little bit longer. Our next storm system out west approaches and thickens clouds tonight. It’s another mild night, with lows in the 40s. An area of low pressure and its adjacent cold front comes this way Wednesday, and this brings showers and thunderstorms our way by the afternoon hours. With warm air ahead of the front, and drastically colder air behind it, the potential exists for some storms to be on the stronger side. The area is under a slight risk for severe weather, with damaging winds being the main threat. Colder air comes rushing in behind the system Wednesday evening, and rain will end as snow showers for some spots, mainly to the north and northwest. No accumulations will result from this; it’ll be too warm beforehand for any snow to stick. Temperatures fall into the 20s Wednesday night, meaning icy areas are possible.

BRIEF ARCTIC RETURN

The powerful storm system locks unseasonably cold air across the Lower Susquehanna River Valley in its wake. Winds are very strong, reinforcing the colder air. High temperatures only reach the middle to upper 20s, with wind chills in the teens and single digits at times.

QUIET PERIOD

Friday and Saturday moderate, with temperatures rising from the 40s into the 50s again. There’s plenty of sunshine for Friday, but clouds return again Saturday. There’s a chance for a few showers Saturday, but the day is not a washout. Sunday temperatures drop into the 40s. Monday is mostly cloudy and cooler with highs in the 30s. Temperatures warm a bit into the 40s Tuesday.

Have a great night!
