CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. – A late afternoon fire has destroyed the boyhood home of rock star Bret Michaels. The fire broke out at about 4 pm at the home in the first block of Hemlock Drive near Mechanicsburg. A family of seven inside the house made it out safely.
Upper Allen Township Fire Chief Jim Salter told FOX43 that flames could be seen pouring from the front of the ranch style home. A second alarm was put in for more manpower. The fire started in the kitchen and spread quickly throughout the home causing extensive damage.
Chief Salter also said the effort to battle the blaze was hampered because nearby fire hydrants were buried in deep snow.
Damage to the home and contents is estimated at $250,000. The American Red Cross is providing assistance to the family.
A friend of the family has said that Toshia Rowland and Dan Krout have five children, girls ages 8, 5, 3 and boys ages 2, and 3 months.
Donations for the family can be dropped off at the Upper Allen Fire department at 104 Gettysburg Pike in Mechanicsburg. A GoFundMe page has also been set up to collect donations.
