After winning enough write-in votes to run as a Republican for Harrisburg mayor, City Controller Dan Miller (D) announced Monday he won’t accept the nomination.

“So, with apologies to all those voters who supported me, especially those who wrote my name on their ballot, I have decided not to accept the Republican nomination,” Miller said.

Miller lost the Democratic primary in May to Midtown Scholar Bookstore owner Eric Papenfuse. Independents Nevin Mindlin and Nate Curtis are also running.

Miller decried the amount of money spent in the primary, saying cash swayed the election more than issues.

“Instead of debating which policy is best for the city and is residents, we got typical political pandering and platitudes in oversized, full-color mail pieces and misleading TV ads,” said Miller.

Miller did not endorse any mayoral candidates.
