The body of a missing boater from Berks County is recovered from the Susquehanna River in Lancaster County. A woman and child, walking along the river bank in Conestoga Township saw a body floating in shallow water close to shore. The county coroner was called to the scene and confirmed that the body was that of 56 year old Jose Suarez-Lopez, of Exeter Township. He had been missing since April 13. Suarez-Lopez and his girlfriend were boating on the river when their small fishing boat flipped over. Neither were wearing life jackets. Suarez-Lopez’s girlfriend, Bertha Castro, of Reading, was rescued by another boater.
Castro, who could not swim, was reportedly being held up by Suarez-Lopez when she was rescued. He disappeared in the deep water.
