The community in Airville, York County held a clothing drive Monday evening for a family of five who lost almost everything they owned in a fire over the weekend.

People brought bags of shirts, pants, coats, blankets, shoes, and toys to the Airville fire hall.

The department got the idea to hold a clothing drive after neighbors contacted firefighters asking what they could do.

Volunteer firefighters say although they haven’t had a fire of this magnitude in a while, it’s nice to see the overwhelming support from the community.

“Makes you feel good, makes you appreciate the community that you live in and know that people are willing to step up when something tragic happens,” says Phil Golden, a volunteer firefighter.

The department plans on holding a spaghetti dinner on December 21st, from 3 to 5 PM.

The proceeds from the dinner will go to the family.
