In Dauphin County, authorities seized two dozen horses they say are in poor condition.  Photos show how thin some of the horses appear to be.  The Executive Director of the Humane Society of Harrisburg says the animals were living in unsanitary conditions on a farm in Derry Township, with dirty water, little food and a giant pile of manure that was five feet high in some places.

Two weeks ago, the agency removed five horses.  They went back Friday to seize the remaining 24 horses.

“Over the weekend we spent moving them to a variety of rescues and private farms that are caring for them on our behalf and we’re in the process of assessing the horses, assessing their long term needs, their short term needs, working on vet care,” says Amy Kaunas.

The case has to move through the court system before any of the horses could be eligible for adoption.  The Humane Society of Harrisburg is asking for donations to help cover the costs of the horses care.  For more information click here.
