Community pools go through final maintenance checks ahead of Memorial Day weekend

The Mechanicsburg Borough Pool is set to open May 25th after going through months of maintenance.

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. — As Pennsylvanians look ahead to Memorial Day weekend, community pools across the region are preparing to open for the summer season.

In Mechanicsburg, crews spent most of Friday testing the water and checking the equipment of the Mechanicsburg Borough Pool. Public works officials say they have been preparing for months to open on Memorial Day weekend.

“I have personally been here every day, morning, noon, and night. I’ve had several team members who have been out every day for the last 30 days," said C.H. Lehr, the Mechanicsburg Borough Public Works director. "We’ve completed all of our inspections, and we have all of our certifications. Everything safety wise is ready to go.”

In addition to the months of pool maintenance, the Mechanicsburg Borough has been working to recruit more people to work as lifeguards during the summer season. Borough officials say staffing levels at the pool are higher now than they have been in the past few years.

“Last weekend, there were 30 staff members here working and training," said Lehr. "It's exciting to see so many people wanting to get out and work again."

As crews go through their final maintenance checks, borough officials say they are ready to welcome swimmers and kick off the summer season.

“It’s a great time for high anticipation," said Lehr. “We’re just ready to get people in the water.”

The Mechanicsburg Pool will be open Saturday through Monday from 11:00AM-6:00PM. The pool will open full time for the summer season beginning June 8th.
