Pennsylvania community comes together after vandalism

After several businesses in Lehighton were vandalized over the weekend, they are working as a team to put their storefronts back together.

LEHIGHTON, Pa. — Christina Yurasits always seems to be whipping up a new project at Blended Bakery, her shop on South First Street in Lehighton. But renovating her storefront was not a part of the original recipe.

"We came into the bakery first thing in the morning, and there was shattered glass on the sidewalk out front," Yurasits said.

It was left behind after an act of vandalism late Friday night.

While Yurasits is grateful that no one was hurt, the vandalism that took place overnight shattered her plans for the busiest time of the year.

"I was so upset. I love our windows; I love our window displays, and I love coming into our storefront. That, to me, was just ruined before Christmas. I was pretty heartbroken," Yurasits said.

Despite the store temperature dropping to the 40s due to the broken windows, the customers coming in are encouraging her to keep Blended Bakery open.

But Yurasits and her crew aren't the only ones cleaning up a mess.

"There were four businesses, and then a building which is next to the store being renovated into apartments," said Yurasits.

Just across the street, Tina Henninger, the owner of Wine and More, noticed a hole in her windows.

"$25,000 each for the downstairs windows because they are so large, and even then, they would not be able to replace them in one piece," said Henninger.

All four impacted businesses are working closely with Lehighton police to find the people responsible.

"The chief was with my son going over the security footage minute by minute to find when it happened, who did it, why it happened. You could not ask for a better response," Henninger said.

"Saturday was a loss for me doing prep work for the holidays. We'll do it Monday and Tuesday," Yurasits said.

Both business owners encourage anyone with additional information about the incident to contact Lehighton police.
