ADAMS COUNTY, Pa. —

An Adams County man is facing several charges after leading police on a high-speed chase.

According to the Gettysburg Borough Police Department, on March 27 at 10:38 p.m., officers attempted to stop a white Toyota SUV along the 100 block of York Street. Police were reportedly suspicious the driver was under the influence after committing several traffic violations.

The driver, later identified as James A. Coffey, 47, from Bonneauville, reportedly accelerated to elude officers and a chase began.

Coffey allegedly committed multiple traffic violations while being pursued.

Officers followed the Toyota SUV, which displayed a Maryland registration plate, out of the borough eastbound on Hanover Street. According to police, the SUV traveled at speeds exceeding 100 mph while on Hanover Road.

The chase ended when Coffey failed to execute a turn, traveling off the road and striking a house.

No one was injured in the house. The structure reportedly sustained some damage but was deemed habitable.

Coffey was transported from the scene by ambulance with moderate, reportedly non-life-threatening injuries.

The Toyota sustained severe damage from the crash and was towed from the scene.

Coffey has been charged with DUI, fleeing and attempting to elude and numerous summary traffic violations.

Pennsylvania State Police in Gettysburg are handling the crash investigation.
