Infertility clinic sees over 400 patients in a year | Health Smart

Dr. Melanie Ochalsky opened the new Shady Grove Fertility Clinic in York to address the growing need for treatment options.

YORK, Pa. — The World Health Organization says one in six people around the world are affected by infertility.

A local fertility clinic designed to help those people get pregnant is celebrating its one-year anniversary.

Bethany and Dallas went through seven rounds of invitro fertilization before going to see fertility specialist Dr. Melanie Ochalski.

"They had their ups and downs, and it was a long journey," she said.

Dr. Ochalski has lived in the area for more than 12 years and has seen firsthand the need for more quality fertility treatment centers in York County.

"I think it's because more patients are aware of what services are available, and there's less of a stigma to access those," she said.

The growing need is why she opened the Shady Grove Fertility Clinic in York County one year ago.

"We have seen over 400 patients in just the last year," Dr. Ochalski said.

And now that it's been a year, babies are starting to be born... just like Bethany and Dallas' twin boys.

"We had a miscarriage, and then we transferred our last embryo, and it became these two little guys," said Bethany.

"It's been really special for me to see their family grow," said Dr. Ochalski.

Infertility is expected to increase in the future. By 2025, almost 10 million couples will likely have problems having a baby. Bethany says never be afraid to see a specialist.

"Even just getting your foot in the door, you know, that relationship so it is an option that you'll have, I think that's what is important," she said. "They've built our family for us, and we can't say enough good things. We were able to make the best out of it, and now here we are with three beautiful boys."
