HYATTSVILLE, Md. — Detectives are working to figure out how a woman ended up shot in her car off of Interstate 495 in Prince George's County over the weekend.

Maryland State Police troopers were called to I-495 just before Landover Road in Hyattsville just before 11 p.m. on Saturday. Once there, troopers found a gray Nissan Versa in a ditch. The driver, identified as 20-year-old Nyah Strong Hairston, of Largo, was unresponsive in the front seat.

According to investigators, troopers were forced to break a window to get into the car. They were able to get Hairston out, and while performing CPR, discovered she had been shot. She was taken to University of Maryland Capital Regional Trauma Center for treatment. Her current condition is not known.

Maryland State Police are still conducting an investigation. Anyone who may know something to help investigators is asked to call 443-829-9227.
