One killed, four injured in weekend shootings in Harrisburg

A 33-year-old man was shot and killed early Saturday morning. 4 others were shot, including a teenager, on Sunday.

HARRISBURG, Pa. — The Harrisburg home of 33-year-old Daniel Maldonado was wrapped in balloons on Monday. Candles dotted the sidewalk.

Maldonado was shot early Saturday morning near his home in the 400 block of Crescent Street.

Maldonado was taken to the hospital, where he died from his multiple gunshot wounds.

Police have charged Anthony Williams, 23, with his murder. He is also facing various firearms offenses.

Anthony Williams, 23, is charged with the murder of Daniel Maldonado.

Investigators are still working to determine what led to the shooting.

“There was some sort of verbal altercation that took place prior to the incident but again that’s part of the ongoing investigation," said Lt. Kyle Gautsch of the Harrisburg Bureau of Police.

That homicide was just one episode of a violent weekend in the Capital City.

On Sunday afternoon, four men, including a teenager, were shot in the area of Duke and Fillmore Streets.

It's a neighborhood that police say is typically pretty quiet.

“Any time we have a shooting of this nature, the amount of casings being collected, the amount of gunfire and four people being struck, it’s quite alarming but in this area it’s extremely alarming," said Lt. Gautsch.

Police say this shooting was not related to the homicide on Saturday.

All four victims were hospitalized. Three were in stable condition while one remains critically injured, as of Monday morning. At least one of the victims was discharged from the hospital.

Police believe Sunday's shooting was a targeted crime and there were multiple shooters, but they have yet to identify any suspects.

“We’re going to keep our foot on the gas and try to do the best we can to hold people accountable and get them off the streets as quickly as possible," said Lt. Gautsch.
