Cookies, cheesecake and wine: Businesses collaborate to bring big flavor

Urban Farmhouse showed off its innovative Girl Scout cookie cheesecakes. The bakery also has sweets that pair perfectly with wines from Vineyard & Brewery at Hershey

YORK, Pa. — If Daylight Saving Time is making your Monday extra long, two local businesses have just the pick-me-up for you.

Urban Farmhouse, a cheesecake shop in Lancaster, turned to Girl Scout cookie season to inspire its latest line of desserts.

"With Urban Farmhouse, we have actually over 100 flavors at this point, and most of them stem from childhood memories or experiences," Melissa Houser, owner, said.

Each cheesecake crust is made from the corresponding cookie, with complementary flavors swirled throughout the dessert.

Everything in Urban Farmhouse's kitchen is homemade, including sweets that pair perfectly with wines from Vineyard & Brewery at Hershey.

These pairings will be available at the vineyard every weekend in March (excluding Easter Sunday) and come in three varieties. Tickets can be purchased here.

Urban Farmhouse's Black Bottom Brownie features cream cheese and chocolate chips and is paired with Blackberry Portrait, a decadent port wine.

The winery's Unoaked Chardonnay--a wine that is made in stainless steel instead of oak so that it develops a bright, refreshing flavor--is paired with the bakery's Yummy Cheesecake Squares.

"We consider this what we call our 'yummy cookie,' which is a childhood favorite of ours," Houser said. "A lot of people know it as a seven-layer bar or a magic bar. It comes by a few different names, but what it has in it is walnuts, butterscotch chips, chocolate chips and coconut."

Cinnamon Streusel Squares are the perfect match for Twisted Kiss, a sweet blend with hints of tropical fruit and subtle strawberry flavors.

"It's a semi-sweet blush--it's a dry red and a sweet white--so it's really gonna pick up some of those cinnamon flavors in the cheesecake," Lynn Day, from the Vineyard & Brewery at Hershey, said.

The Urban Farmhouse is located at 60 N. Queen Street in Lancaster and open Thursday and Friday from 11 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. or until sold out. Houser says the shop has sold out every Saturday so far in 2024.

The Vineyard & Brewery at Hershey can be found at 598 Schoolhouse Rd. in Middletown and is open Sunday - Friday from noon - 5 p.m. and Saturday from noon - 6 p.m.
