Rage room prepares to officially open its doors in York County

York County's newest rage room is set to open at the end of October.

YORK, Pa. — A new rage room is soon expected to officially open in York County, and the owners say the space will be more than just a place to break things.

Rage rooms can be described as controlled spaces where people can break a variety of items, including plates, glassware or electronics.

They’ve become increasingly popular across the United States, and Sean and Phyl Campbell are ready to break into the rage market with a smash!

“You’re intentionally breaking society’s kind of unspoken rule ‘you shouldn’t break stuff;’ well, it’s fun, it makes a loud noise, it’s a safe place to do it, we give you safety equipment and we clean up after you,” said Sean Campbell, co-owner of The Rage Room York.

The Campbells started their company as a mobile business but are finally setting up shop in York County. The space they acquired was originally an escape room.

The couple says their rage room will be more than just a place to destroy.

“Most people think of a rage room as a place where you go in and break stuff, and that is true, and we have that function, but we extend to having other things like paint throwing, a place for the little kids to rage, and a tinker space,” said Phyl Campbell, co-owner of the business.

Guests will have the option to use several break rooms, including a mock room and tinker space.

“We have some very creative individuals who think of scenes that people then want to come and break,” Sean said.

Guests will be able to break a variety of items like furniture, dishes and mannequins. Whatever is damaged will be repurposed and can be broken again.

“Everything is set up to try and maximize the usability of the space for anybody,” Sean described.

Most breakable items were donated or bought at liquidation events. The rage room also accepts item donations but cannot accept certain electronics for safety reasons.

“One man’s trash is our business,” Sean and Phyl said.

The space is ADA compliant and is scheduled to officially open Oct. 31 at noon. Doors close at 9 pm.
