SNOW & WINDY START TO WEEKEND

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY issued for Dauphin, Lebanon & Lancaster Counties from 5am to 7pm Saturday.  Accumulations around 2" is more likely in the advisory area, while the rest of the area could pick up a coating to 2".   Snow could fall heavy at times, overcoming melting,  later in the morning. It will last through the afternoon.

A fast moving clipper will dive through the area spreading light snow mix across the region overnight.  With temperatures well above freezing when the precipitation arrives, it may briefly begin as a rain-snow mix.  Eventually, the colder air turns any mixture to all snow, which will fall through the morning and much of the day Saturday.  A coating to 2” of snow accumulation is possible.  Once the sun rises around 6:37, we will be battling the April sun melting the snow against the rate of snowfall.   So it could be melting as fast as it is falling.  Any burst of snow may quickly coat the surface. Highs will struggle to reach 40 degrees.

Winds are expected to be strong heading into the afternoon. They will gust from the northwest 20 to 25 mph with gusts over 40 mph possible.  This will produce wind chills for much of the day in the 20s and teens for the overnight into Sunday morning.  Record breaking lows are likely for Sunday morning too.  The record is 26 degrees, the forecast is 24 degrees.  High pressure building by Sunday relaxes the winds and brings the sunshine back for much of the day.
