Organizing holiday travel plans ahead of the rush | Travel Smart

October is known as the spookiest month of the year, but it's also the best time to book holiday flights, according to Google Trends.

PENNSYLVANIA, USA — Millions are preparing to celebrate Halloween, but what about major upcoming holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas?

October is known as the spookiest month of the year, but it's also the best time to book holiday flights, according to Google Trends

"I'd say it's not necessarily too, too late to book some holiday travel," said Kate Camarro, the co-owner of Dream Vacations in York County.

She adds that while now is a good time to think about flights, it may be too late for some.

"As we get closer, prices tend to start rising 30 days before travel," Camarro said.

That means booking that Thanksgiving trip may start to get more expensive soon, with about 40 days until the holiday. According to online travel guide Hopper, airfare for Thanksgiving trips is costing people an average of about $300 round trip, up $10 from last year.

Meanwhile, Camarro says now is a great time to book flights for Christmas!

"I wouldn't be waiting too much longer for what resort you may want to stay at," Camarro advised. "It's not a big deal if you're just going to visit family for the holidays, but if you're looking to take a holiday trip it might be starting to get tight."

She stressed travelers should think about every intricacy of the trip from first stepping into the airport to returning home.

"I'd say preparation is key. What age are your kids? What kinds of things do you want to have on hand? Looking at the airport, does your credit card offer you access to any lounge that may ease travel?" Camarro asked.

And for those who think it's too last-minute now? Camarro says, "Just go ahead and think about next year."
