MOUNT WOLF BOROUGH, YORK COUNTY, Pa.–A 19-year-old woman died Thursday, five days after she was brutally assaulted in Mount Wolf Borough, according to the York County Coroner’s office.

Ahshantianna Ali Johnson was taken to WellSpan York Hospital early Saturday morning after she was assaulted outside her home along the 100 block of South 2nd Street.

Northeastern Regional police responded to the home around 3 a.m. Saturday after reports of a home invasion, Chief Bryan Rizzo told FOX43. They found Johnson unconscious in the backyard, and saw that she had suffered blunt force trauma to the head, he added.

Johnson never regained consciousness, and was thus unable to provide police with information on the attack, Rizzo said. Another occupant at the home witnessed the home invasion, but did not observe the assault, he said.

Rizzo said there are potentially multiple persons of interest in the case, but he would not elaborate on the identities of those people or any descriptive information such as gender, ethnicity or physical attributes. Police believe Johnson or the home may have been specifically targeted by the assailants.

Neighbors expressed shock about the attack almost a week after it happened.

“I think jail is too good for somebody who would do that to somebody’s daughter,” Mark Carbaugh, a neighbor, said Friday. “If that happened to one of my children, grandchildren…it would drive me crazy.”

“I got out of the city a long time ago and for stuff like that to happen, I mean I guess it happens anywhere, but for it to happen around here is kind of scary,” Tonya Moseley, a neighbor, added.

An autopsy is scheduled for Saturday at Lehigh Valley Hospital.
