The massive, twice-yearly WeeUsables consignment sale kicked off to the public Thursday in East Lampeter Township, Lancaster County, drawing huge crowds and lines of eager shoppers.

The sale happens in the spring and fall in Lancaster and York Counties and is a highly anticipated event.

Thousands of moms, dads and grandparents from all over the area fill shopping baskets with clothes, shoes, toys and books at a fraction of their original price.

Seventy-thousand items from 500 consigners were tagged and ready for sale in the Lancaster Host Resort’s Expo Center at 2300 Lincoln Hwy East, Lancaster, Pa 17602.

Lori Hartmann, a mom herself, started the WeeUsables event three years ago, as a way for local families to save and make money.

“There’s only so many places where you can cut expenses and if there’s a way to outfit your kids for the next season, in a more affordable way, then great,” she said. “Because they don’t stop growing.”

To make sure someone else doesn’t run off with something you have your eye on, seasoned WeeUsables shoppers have these words of advice.

“Come early, make sure you allot a lot of time, the line takes forever and find a babysitter! said Kristin Braughler, a mom of two from Columbia.

Admission to the sale is free.
