GREENCASTLE, FRANKLIN COUNTY, Pa.–A Greencastle teen has been arrested in connection with a New Year’s eve shooting that left a 17-year-old dead.

Online court documents filed with  Magisterial District Judge Jody Eyer reveal the name of the teen charged with criminal homicide is 15-year-old Taylor A. Nelson. The shooting happened just before 10 p.m. Saturday along the 400 block of West Baltimore Street in Greencastle, Franklin County. Responding state police troopers  found the victim, now identified as Mathew Mitchell, sitting in a chair with his legs crossed. He had been shot in the forehead.

According to charging documents, Nelson admitted to police that he was angry with Mitchell for picking on him. Nelson said  he took the handgun from his father’s night stand to scare Mitchell. At one point, he chambered a round to further scare Mitchell.

Nelson put the gun on the floor at some point, then picked it up 10 minutes later. He dropped the magazine from the gun and held the barrel to Mitchell’s forehead. He pulled the trigger. Nelson told police he did not know the gun was loaded and did not intend to kill Mitchell.

Nelson was arraigned Sunday and taken to Franklin County Prison without bail, according to online court documents.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for January 10.

A news conference is scheduled for 11:15 a.m. at State Police-Chambersburg barracks. FOX43 News will be there and will continue to update this story throughout the day.
