Police responding to a commercial burglar alarm arrived in time to catch the suspect still inside the store, trying to hide behind a display. It happened early Sunday morning at the Smokers’ Outlet, 1634 West Market Street in West York. Cruz Manuel Roque-Pabon, 32, no fixed address, allegedly pried open the exterior door. Police found him hunkered behind a display and trying to hide his face under a hooded shirt. Roque-Pabon refused to surrender, and was subsequently Tasered and handcuffed.

Roque-Pabon had cash that he admitted he took from the store’s register.

Police also recovered a heavy canvas tool bag, containing one large crow bar, bolt cutters, wire cutters, several smaller pry bars in addition to other various tools inside the store.  There were also 58 packs of Newport brand cigarettes stuffed into this tool bag.

In addition to the rear door, cash register and display cases all being damaged (pried open), wiring to the alarm system was also cut by ROQUE-PABON.

Roque-Pabon told the police he broke into the Smokers’ Outlet to steal in order to support his heroin habit.

Roque-Pabon is charged with:

1)  Burglary – Felony

2)  Possessing Instruments of Crime – 1st degree Misdemeanor

3)  Resisting Arrest – 2nd degree Misdemeanor

4)  Criminal Mischief – 2nd degree Misdemeanor

Roque-Pabon is in prison in lieu of $30,000 bail.
