DALLASTOWN, Pa. -- A York County native was one of the 14 victims killed in the California shooting.

Harry Bowman, or as his friends liked to call him, Hal, was known for his intelligence and love for debate.

Superintendent Ronald Dyer said Bowman was very involved in school and goal-centered. He was involved in cross country and the debate team.  He was a National Merit Scholar and graduated second in his class.

Mike Jones, a school friend of Bowman's and 1987 class president, said Bowman was known mostly for his involvement in the debate team. He was the leader of the team, and while he attended school, the debate team did well. Jones said Bowman was also well-liked in school.

"At least from my perspective, a very likable guy. I couldn't come up with a single thing negative to say about him if I wanted to," Jones said.

Jones said he knew Bowman since middle school, but he hasn't seen Bowman since they graduated.
